I’m Dave Crossley and I’d like to introduce ‘Day to Dave’ - my local home help business located in Kendal, Cumbria.
As a Kendalian myself, I’m very proud to be part of our thriving town and I’ve spent the last 23 years working in various community focused roles within the leisure and charity sector here in South Lakeland. In my last position at Age UK I met and worked with older clients in their homes every day and as we spent more time together my business idea began to develop.
I spotted a need for an affordable service that focuses on adding assistance, energy and companionship to day to day activities, for those who like to be independent but might just need a little helping hand. I have been inspired by my experiences to set up 'Day to Dave' so that I can put my skills into practice adding a bit more to people's day to day activities. I've met some fantastic people since I started the business in 2016 and now six years on in 2022, Day to Dave is still going strong.
I very much look forward to meeting and helping even more local people and their families as the service continues to grow.

My skills and qualifications
I have spent all of my professional career within the service sector and have always enjoyed a people focused role.
For many years I worked as a Leisure Manager at Kendal Leisure Centre, which allowed me to experience a wide range of different positions and activities. Every day I met and worked with a variety of people, from junior swimmers, to keen athletes, classical concert goers and even celebrities! (If Ken Dodd counts?)
During my time at Kendal Leisure Centre I completed a selection of key qualifications including operational Health and Safety, First Aid and ILM Line Management to name just a few. I am also a fully qualified ASA Level 1, 2 and Disability Swimming Teacher, which is something I still do today and thoroughly enjoy.
After volunteering for three years at Age UK South Lakeland and running computer skills classes for older people, I was delighted to then join the team as a full time Community Officer. At Age UK I met clients in their homes on a daily basis and assisted with everything from benefits applications to partner referrals and community connection activities.
I have worked with many partner organisations including Alzheimer's Society (I'm a Dementia friend) Macmillan Cancer Support, Sight Advice South Lakes, Oaklea Trust, South Lakeland Mind and more.
I was also very proud to achieve an NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance, which further developed my experience and has given me a real platform, along with my other skills to launch 'Day to Dave'.
My hobbies and interests
Outside work I am a keen sports person and enjoy playing golf at my local club,
Carus Green. I am also an avid Manchester United fan and frequently like to go to matches at Old Trafford to cheer them on from the stands.
I really enjoy travelling and discovering new places, my wife and I like to try and explore when we can, we have been lucky enough to visit New York recently which was a fantastic experience.
